The downfall of Seagate was expected since 2005. The management level is an arena of political struggle. The acquisition of Maxtor was a bad move: why buy over a failing company? Seagate management lacked and still lacks the foresight on storage industry. The combination of these factors resulted in key engineering strength leaving the company since 2007. And consequently, its down fall.

The closure of AMK facility was anticipated since 2003. It was a miracle it survived till 2009. The existing staffs not only lost money thru the depressed STX stock prices, they many face a short changed severance package in time to come. Consistently, Seagate has never treated its core working teams well.
