If the CEO can't produce one in advance, he's not likely worth your time. And limit yourself to 30 minutes for a first meeting. This helps ensure both parties are focused. Chemistry takes care of the rest (I don't mean caffeine). The rest of your post differentiates you from the VC pack here because (assuming you reciprocate similar quantities), the CEO will feel his time was well spent. Cheers!
