Giulio, I moved away from the dSLR system for exactly the same reasons - heft and unwanted attention.

I think the only way you can set hyperfocal and shoot MF is by using adaptor rings and older lenses with manual aperture rings on them. Unfortunately I don't have any and can't advise you beyond this. I also haven't experimented enough with video to say anything smart or meaningful.

I started shooting professionally and was sponsored by Olympus with the e1 system back when it came out and switched to Canon but now am thinking of going back to a smaller system since my needs have changed.

I have a 5DMKII system with six lenses and its just a real bitch to carry with me plus it draws attention to me and I like to be a fly on the wall when I shoot street and when I shoot commissions I don't want people to think my camera makes the shot, "you must have a good camera these shots are great!" I hate when people say that.

My only beef with the ep2 is that I can't seem to find a way to set hyperfocal distance and shoot which is what I would like to do. Secondly I read that the Art Filters really slow down the video. Although I do all my video post in Final Cut Pro sometimes I just want to get the files online fast.

What are your thoughts?

Yo James, I was looking hard at the Pen1 too. But the current set of digital lenses (micro4/3) available for the Pen is rather limited: no fast aperture wides (which I'm sure you were very fond of the 24 f/2 on the LX3). Fiddling with manual focus on EVF/LCD (i.e. 'electronic' feedback vs optical feedback) isn't much fun too, thus so far I have remained on the DSLR route.

that said, left you a msg on FB regarding your Lx3 :) been looking around for a nice P&S to replace my aging Fuji F31.

I'm a pro shooter using Nikon but I'm about to start an EP-2 system. My back has suffered from years of lugging around enormous cameras and I'm fed up with it. The EP-2 looks like being the perfect camera system for me, both as a photojournalist and a filmmaker.

I don't see the 2gig limit as being much of an issue for the way I shoot and the EP-2 will be my main video tool. I have already designed a fig rig for it with focus aids and fittings for a mic and small lights when needed. And it's still quite small and not at all heavy.

I hope to fetch mine in a couple of weeks. I will start by using my manual Nikon primes.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Best,
Paul Treacy
