Graffiti in Kuala Lumpur

by James Chan on 13 Jul ’10

I was pleasantly surprised to spot some pretty cool graffiti at an outdoor garage towards the end of Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur’s main shopping district. It doesn’t look planned, and looks simply gorgeous. I wish we had more of such stuff across Orchard Road, instead of having it limited to the Youth Skate Park beside the Somerset MRT station.  Graffiti is a divisive topic, and can lie in the realms of either high art or downright vandalism.  Thanks to a truly cool professor I had at Carnegie Mellon for a writing course, I’ve since learnt to appreciate graffiti’s finer sides.

I thought I’d share what I saw, for what it’s worth.  You’re welcomed to air your distaste, or sit back and enjoy it with me.

Pretty and colorful Graffiti is one nice, but I’m curious how long a guy like Banksy would survive in Singapore :)
