Welcome to motochan.com – my loose collection of writings on the Social Web.
Master of the Obvious: An individual who constantly repeats previously stated information, thus subtracting value from the original statement.
The moniker ‘motochan’ was given to me by my best friend Marcus, for being a “Master Of The Obvious” while watching “The Butterfly Effect” in the living room of our rented South Neville house back in 2004. Since my surname’s Chan, Marcus put 1 and 1 together to give birth to my nickname, that has stuck ever since. Other references to MOTO include:
- M.O.T.O. – garage punk band called Masters Of The Obvious that was formed in 1981, the year I was born
- Masters of the Obvious – an article on Organizational Behavior by one of my favourite professors while at Stanford, Bob Sutton
I may be a Computer Engineer by training, but a lot of my coding leanings has been left far behind ever since graduation. What you see here is my best efforts at hacking something decent together, to serve as a repository of my life and thoughts on technology, venture capital & entrepreneurship, travel, photography and pretty much everything else in between.
I’m happy to speak to like-minded folks – feel free to drop me a line or two.
Sincerely yours,
James Chan
